Gandhinagar, 30 January 2025: Ahmedabad witnessed history on January 25 and 26, 2025, as the world-renowned British band Coldplay delivered India’s biggest concert, captivating audiences with an unforgettable musical spectacle. A staggering 1.3 lakh tickets were sold, drawing nearly 2.5 lakh visitors to Ahmedabad for this grand musical spectacle. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government extended comprehensive support to the organizers, ensuring the event’s seamless execution. Government departments, including the police, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, and other key authorities, worked in unison to provide top-tier security, efficient traffic management, multimodal transportation, and emergency services. With 1.3 lakh fans filling the venue, this concert now stands as Coldplay’s largest-ever show in India.

Highlighting India’s concert economy’s vast potential, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, remarked “You must have seen fabulous pictures of the Coldplay concert organised in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. It shows that India has massive scope for live concerts. Big artists from around the world are attracted towards India… I expect the state and the private sector to focus on needed infrastructure and skills.” The PM made these remarks while addressing the Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025.

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel remarked, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Gujarat has successfully hosted major international events such as the G-20 Summit and the Cricket World Cup in 2023. With the world-class infrastructure in place, the state continues to attract global events. The success of the Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad further reinforces Gujarat’s position as a premier destination for international gatherings.”

Over 4 Lakh People Travelled on Metro in Two Days, Breaking World Cup Record

To facilitate smooth transportation for the concertgoers, the Gujarat government efficiently managed buses, trains, and metro services. Ahmedabad Metro witnessed an unprecedented surge in ridership, recording its highest-ever footfall and generating ₹66 lakh in revenue over two days. A total of 4,05,264 passengers travelled by metro, with 833 trips conducted during the concert period. This milestone shattered previous records set during major sporting events. On October 14, 2023, during the India-Pakistan Cricket World Cup match, metro ridership reached 1,42,972, while the World Cup final on October 19, 2023, saw 1,37,801 travellers. The IPL 2024 final on May 22, 2024, recorded 1,65,504 metro passengers—figures now far surpassed by this concert.

Robust Security and Transportation Arrangements

With visitors pouring in from across India, meticulous security and transportation arrangements were put in place to ensure a seamless experience. Over 1,800 police personnel, including senior officials, were deployed, maintaining strict vigilance throughout the event. Two dedicated police control rooms and two advanced CCTV monitoring centres, equipped with 470 cameras, provided round-the-clock surveillance. Patrolling was intensified around the venue, while emergency preparedness was strengthened with two temporary hospitals and 10 standby ambulances. To ensure smooth traffic movement, 17 designated parking areas were set up, accommodating more than 8,000 vehicles.

1,500+ Tons of Waste Cleared Within 48 Hours

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation upheld the highest standards of sanitation throughout the event, ensuring a clean and well-maintained environment around Narendra Modi Stadium. A dedicated team of 492 sanitation workers, 14 JCB machines and 27 trucks worked tirelessly for efficient waste management. Sweeping operations were conducted using 12 advanced sweeping machines, while waste collection was streamlined with the deployment of 5 compactors and 10 additional SWM vehicles. A staggering 1,550 tons of waste was collected and disposed of within just 48 hours.

900+ Flights in 3 Days Boost Local Economy

In just three days, over 900 flights arrived at Ahmedabad International Airport, nearly doubling the usual influx. Visitors from across India not only attended the highly anticipated Coldplay concert but also explored Ahmedabad’s vibrant tourist attractions and savour the flavours of Gujarat’s traditional cuisine. This surge in tourism provided a significant boost to local businesses, benefiting hotels, restaurants, urban transport services, and street vendors, who found new streams of income during the event.
